Modernising Tunnel Lighting for Safety and Efficiency

The Bamble and Kjørholt tunnels on Norway’s E18 highway, originally opened in 1996, required a lighting upgrade as part of a broader infrastructure improvement. The project aimed to enhance safety, improve energy efficiency, and ensure long-term durability, all while accommodating a future highway expansion.

Thorn provided a comprehensive lighting solution featuring 950 GTLED PRO luminaires, installed by Tratec. Designed specifically for tunnel environments, these luminaires offer exceptional uniformity and glare control. Their dimmable functionality adapts to traffic volume and external lighting conditions, ensuring optimal visibility and energy savings.
